]]> Sat Feb 14 2009 Pete's Wake http://towy71.fotopic.net/c1306269.html This is a site to carry some pictures of Pete Rayner's wake which was held on 29th January 2007 at Ye White Hart in Barnes. Pete died while spending Christmas in Thailand with Ceri and Lek. He was cremated at a Buddhist temple by a river in Bangkok but Anna and Ceri wanted to have a celebration in his memory. "We are here to celebrate and remember Pete Rayner For the last few years Pete kept reminding us that his condition was terminal and sadly that outcome has come to pass. I know he would not have wanted a quiet affair, he was after all a working class hero. Some people are going to say and do things but we should start as he would have wanted, with a swift light ale! Raise a glass to Pete my/our mate while we have a bit of Bob Dylan's Forever Young" Poems were read by Natasha, Amelie, Alice and music was played by PeterD and Gilly sang too. "Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of eternal passion. That is just being 'in love', which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. those that truly love have roots that grow towards each other.... and when all the pretty blossom has fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two" The evening went on with music from "Never Mind the Bongos" and "Stiff Joints". when the pub closed at midnight the party moved back to the house and went on through Sunday with more music being played. The saddest thing was that Lizzie would have enjoyed the party and the crack, I raise a glass to you Lizzie! A tree was planted in her memory on her dad's farm and her ashes were scattered in Dunstanburgh Castle where she played as a child and in view of the family home. Pip and I found this anonymous Indian prayer which was read when they planted the silver birch; When I am dead Cry for me a little Think of me sometimes But not too much Think of me now and again As I was in life At some moments its pleasant to recall But not for long.
